In his letter to the Dwelling Minister, Mr Kharge listed “a number of situations the place the Assam Police has been discovered wanting in offering sufficient safety” Mr Gandhi is entitled to as a Z+ protectee. He then referred to the defacing of Congress posters and BJP employees blocking the Congress yatra on January 21 and assaulting state social gathering chief Bhupen Borah.
“In all the troubling occasions talked about above, the Assam Police has systematically stood by and/or allowed BJP employees to return nearer and nearer to the convoy of Shri. Rahul Gandhi, breaching his safety cordon, and endangering his bodily safety and that of his workforce,” Mr Kharge wrote.
None of these concerned in these incidents, he stated, had been arrested regardless of the presence of proof within the public area. “As the chance will increase and because the Yatra proceeds as deliberate, we request your intervention to make sure that the Chief Minister of Assam and the Director Basic of Police, Assam be certain that no such untoward incident takes place which can result in grave private harm to Shri. Rahul Gandhi or any members of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,” he added.
Congress leaders have been alleging that Mr Sarma has been creating hurdles within the yatra. Yesterday’s conflict at Guwahati metropolis limits befell when police stopped Congress employees from transferring on metropolis roads. The administration had earlier denied permission for the yatra to maneuver by way of the town’s arterial roads, citing congestion fears. Congress employees termed the grounds of denying permission frivolous and tried to interrupt by way of the barricades, resulting in the conflict with cops.
